Mizoram’s traditional spring festival, Chapchar Kut 2026, was joyously celebrated in Aizawl, the state capital, with Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasizing unity and harmony among the people. Chapchar Kut, a significant festival for the Mizo community, marks the transition from winter to spring after the jhum cutting phase of traditional farming. Participants of all ages and genders engage in the festivities symbolizing nature and human life renewal.

Dressed in colorful traditional attire, young men and women showcase traditional dances that continue late into the night during the celebrations. Chief Minister Lalduhoma graced the event as the Chief Guest, with Art and Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga hosting as the Kut Thlengtu. The festival’s theme this year was “Zo Nun Ze Mawi – Inremna,” translating to “The Beauty of Zo Culture: Harmony.”

The week-long celebrations commenced with the Kut Tlan ceremony on March 9, featuring various activities such as handloom exhibitions, food processing showcases, and Chapchar Kut film screenings. The main event on Friday was the highlight of the festival, attracting tourists from different parts of India and ethnic Mizo communities from neighboring Northeastern states.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma, in his address, extended greetings to Zo people worldwide and emphasized the festival’s historical significance in promoting happiness, harmony, and reconciliation. He highlighted the traditional values of unity and reconciliation within Mizo society, urging people to embrace these principles. The festival aims to foster unity and mutual respect, encouraging individuals to embody the theme of “Inremna” (Harmony) in their lives.

Art and Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga expressed gratitude for the successful event and encouraged attendees to uphold the spirit of harmony in their community. Central Young Mizo Association (YMA) President R. Lalngheta urged people to cherish the festival and promote unity within the Mizo community. Chief Minister Lalduhoma also presented the Chief Minister’s Special Awards during the celebration, recognizing outstanding individuals.
