Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy for fostering comprehensive growth in the northeastern region. Speaking at the North Eastern Council’s plenary session in Shillong, he emphasized the region’s potential as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, citing its abundant resources and cultural heritage. Lalduhoma highlighted the need for a unified approach to connectivity, encompassing various infrastructure sectors like roads, railways, and telecommunications.
The Chief Minister presented the final report of the Northeast Economic Corridor Task Force during the meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Shah. He stressed the importance of preparing for upcoming opportunities, especially with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project in Myanmar nearing completion. Lalduhoma urged support for programs promoting investment readiness, skill development, and entrepreneurship to drive inclusive growth in sectors like tourism, agriculture, and green energy.
Lalduhoma proposed cluster-based investments and emphasized the significance of sectors like bamboo, food processing, and eco-tourism for economic development. He called for the establishment of a dedicated coordination mechanism to ensure effective implementation of budgetary support earmarked for the Northeast. The Chief Minister underscored the region’s potential as a trade gateway through initiatives like the Act East Policy and the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway.
