Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has called on individuals receiving family pensions through fraudulent means to voluntarily surrender their Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) to avoid legal consequences. The state government’s Finance Department initiated a program to sensitize people about surrendering PPOs obtained with invalid documents. The Chief Minister emphasized that stringent actions will be taken against those found guilty after verification.
Expressing concern over the misuse of the Family Pension system, Lalduhoma highlighted that some individuals may have unknowingly used forged documents to obtain benefits. The government aims to curb such misuse of public funds by conducting thorough verifications and discontinuing pensions obtained illegally. A three-month voluntary surrender window has been provided for individuals to return their PPOs without facing recovery demands.
The Chief Minister assured that the government is dedicated to ensuring timely and transparent pension disbursements to all beneficiaries. Efforts to streamline the pension system have been ongoing, with a focus on addressing delays caused by inadequate training of officials handling pension files. Lalduhoma also reiterated the government’s respect for retired employees and emphasized the need to combat fraudulent claims supported by forged documents.
Authorities have been cautioned to scrutinize documents such as Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, and Income Certificates submitted for Family Pension. Suspicious documents will lead to thorough investigations, and legal actions may be taken against those responsible for issuing them. Currently, Mizoram has 39,954 pension beneficiaries, including Superannuation Pensioners, Family Pension beneficiaries, and others receiving pension benefits through various schemes.
