Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has once again emphasized the importance of steering clear of drugs and fighting against the rising drug issue. During the inauguration of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Mizoram Group Headquarters in Aizawl, he expressed concerns about the escalating substance abuse among the youth and highlighted the necessity of protecting them from such negative influences. Lalduhoma stressed the significance of offering disciplined and skilled youth broader platforms to exhibit their abilities.
The Chief Minister disclosed that the state government’s decision to establish its own NCC Group Headquarters was driven by the objective of nurturing disciplined, capable, and dedicated youth. He also mentioned a special four-month operation conducted last year by the Mizoram government, in collaboration with various agencies, to combat drug smuggling from neighboring regions. The operation included awareness campaigns alongside enforcement activities.
Major General Anurag Vij, the Additional Director General of NCC’s North Eastern Region, outlined NCC’s mission to train and mentor youth into responsible, self-disciplined citizens who positively contribute to society. He emphasized the importance of steering clear of substance abuse and unhealthy lifestyles. Major General Vij also highlighted the NCC’s commitment to supporting state initiatives aligned with these goals and promoting greater integration of Northeastern youth with the rest of the country.
NCC officials underscored the necessity for appropriate infrastructure, including accommodation facilities, to support the growing NCC activities in Mizoram. They expressed readiness to construct facilities if the state government provides suitable land on a long-term lease basis. Currently, Mizoram hosts four NCC units with approximately 8,000 cadets, and the establishment of the Group Headquarters is expected to further expand NCC’s footprint in the state.
