Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) praised the state’s enduring peace since the Mizoram Peace Accord, highlighting the 40-year milestone without any disturbances. The Ruby Jubilee event celebrated the Accord’s success in ending conflict and fostering peace, stability, and development in Mizoram.
The Governor emphasized the Accord’s global recognition as a model for conflict resolution and peace-building. He underscored the importance of annual Peace Day observance on June 30, marking the Accord’s signing in 1986, which led to Mizoram attaining statehood in 1987. General Singh (Retd) commended Mizoram’s progress and urged continuous efforts to maintain and strengthen peace.
Reflecting on Mizoram’s transformation from insurgency to peace, the Governor emphasized the need to learn from history and address public grievances promptly. He praised Mizoram’s peaceful environment, attributing it to embracing democratic processes. The Governor lauded the organizers of the Ruby Jubilee event for their contributions to peace-building and policy-making in Mizoram.
General Singh (Retd) encouraged the community to embrace collaboration, learning, and innovation for the state’s development. He called for collective efforts to uphold the legacy of the Mizoram Peace Accord, emphasizing the importance of leveraging talent and alliances for progress. The event featured a premiere screening of the “Mizo Peace Accord Documentary Series,” enriching understanding of peace-building and nation-building initiatives.
