Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) lauded the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, as a hub of agricultural innovation and excellence in the Northeast region. He highlighted the university’s crucial role in advancing agricultural research, education, and sustainable development across eight states. Singh inaugurated three significant meetings of CAU scheduled from June 22 to 24, 2026, emphasizing their comprehensive coverage of laboratory work, field delivery, and classroom learning under the theme of “Lab to Land” education.

Singh commended CAU’s policy document titled “Transformation of the Mizoram Economy from US Dollar 540 Million to US Dollar 6,394 Million @ 2047,” noting the potential for Mizoram’s agro-based economy to achieve this transformation by focusing on increasing farmer income. He stressed the importance of defining clear roles for districts and communities in agricultural development to ensure inclusivity. Singh also highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture and allied sectors in the rural economy, emphasizing their potential to contribute significantly to the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Acknowledging the Central Government’s initiatives for farmers’ welfare, Singh called for enhanced collaboration among scientists, faculty, researchers, and farmers. He urged a focus on value addition, entrepreneurship, sustainable livelihoods, market linkages, eco-friendly practices, and technology development. Singh expressed his appreciation for CAU scientists and pledged continued support, stating, “The future of the North Eastern Region and a prosperous Viksit Bharat will be grown in your laboratories, taught in your classrooms, and harvested in our fields.”

CAU Vice-Chancellor Anupam Mishra praised the university as one of India’s leading agricultural institutions, highlighting the opportunities arising from the Northeast’s diverse agricultural landscape. He mentioned CAU’s operation of 13 Constituent Colleges, 6 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 6 Multi Technology Testing Centres, and 6 Vocational Training and Testing Centres across the region. During the event, Singh presented technologies developed by the College of Community Science, Tura, Meghalaya, including Strawberry Jam, Litchi Jam, and Mango King Chilli Sauce, to PRIME Rural, Shillong. He also launched four Comilla Cotton Meditech Products jointly developed by the College of Community Science, Tura, and ICAR-CICR, Nagpur. Additionally, lavender and coriander seeds were distributed to farmers from Aizawl, Saitual, Serchhip, and Champhai districts, and seven CAU publications were released.
