Mizoram Governor, Gen Vijay Kumar Singh (retd), commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in popularizing yoga globally. He highlighted yoga’s significance in promoting health, wellness, and harmony on the 12th International Day of Yoga. Gen Singh emphasized the holistic benefits of yoga for the body, mind, and intellect, advocating adherence to the Common Yoga Protocol for optimal results.
The Governor stressed that yoga, beyond physical exercise, aims to foster internal harmony. He lauded the theme of “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” at the state-level event organized by the National AYUSH Mission and Directorate of AYUSH. Gen Singh underscored the accessibility and affordability of yoga, noting its inclusive nature that requires no special equipment and suits individuals from all backgrounds.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii hailed Mizoram’s active participation in the global yoga movement for peace and well-being. She described yoga as a simple practice that offers tranquility amidst modern life’s hustle. Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena affirmed the Mizoram government’s commitment to promoting preventive and holistic healthcare through the integration of traditional and modern medical approaches via the AYUSH system.
International Day of Yoga 2026 was celebrated across Mizoram, with various institutions hosting events to mark the occasion. The state-level program in Aizawl saw approximately 300 participants, including personnel from Assam Rifles, Mizo Air Squadron NCC, and government officials, coming together to commemorate the day.
