Security forces in Mizoram apprehended two individuals, including a woman from Manipur, and confiscated heroin valued at over Rs 1.17 crore, along with ammunition, in separate operations. The woman was caught with the heroin during a vehicle-checking operation in Saitual district. The contraband, hidden in soap cases, was found in a vehicle traveling from Manipur to Aizawl.
In a distinct operation, based on intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police intercepted a Myanmar national in Zokhawthar, recovering illegal ammunition from him. The recovered ammunition included rounds of 7.62 mm, 5.56 mm, and .22 mm. The individual and the seized ammunition were handed over to the police for further investigation.
The successful operations demonstrate the commitment of security forces to combat cross-border smuggling and maintain peace in Mizoram’s sensitive border areas with Myanmar. Mizoram and Manipur have been highlighted as significant drug trafficking routes in Northeast India due to their porous borders with Myanmar, facilitating illegal activities.
