Moderate rainfall is forecasted in various parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, with heavy rain anticipated in the hill regions of Coimbatore and parts of the Nilgiris, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai. A weather trough extending from the north coastal districts of Tamil Nadu to the Kanyakumari Sea is influencing the weather conditions across the state, leading to heavy rainfall in Coimbatore’s hill areas and isolated spots in the Nilgiris with gusty winds.
The RMC has also predicted moderate rain accompanied by strong winds in isolated places in northern Tamil Nadu, while light rain is expected in a few locations in the southern districts. Meteorologists have stated that the current atmospheric conditions are conducive for scattered rainfall in various parts of the state, offering relief from the prevailing heat, particularly in interior regions.
In Chennai, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy throughout the day, with moderate rainfall likely in some areas during the evening and night hours. Residents are advised to be cautious during heavy showers and gusty winds, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Despite the rain forecast, many parts of Tamil Nadu experienced heatwave-like conditions on Monday, with temperatures exceeding 37.7 degrees Celsius at seven weather stations, indicating the continued hot and humid weather across the state.
The highest temperature of 38.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Cuddalore and Vellore, while other places like Tiruttani, Nagapattinam, and Parangipettai also faced intense daytime heat. Chennai witnessed temperatures above 37.8 degrees Celsius on Monday, with weather officials expecting similar levels on Tuesday despite the chance of evening showers. Meteorologists highlighted that such weather patterns are common during the southwest monsoon season, characterized by intermittent rainfall alongside high daytime temperatures and humidity.
While the expected rain may offer temporary relief from the heat in various districts, authorities advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the afternoon sun, and be cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds. The RMC assured that it would monitor the evolving weather system closely and issue further advisories if conditions change. Residents, especially those in hilly and vulnerable areas, are urged to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
