Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has been acquitted by the Alipore Court in a cheque bounce case filed by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. Jahan alleged that a Rs 1 lakh cheque issued by Shami towards household expenses had bounced. The court delivered its verdict on Wednesday, clearing Shami of all charges.
Shami’s advocate, Salim Rahman, confirmed the acquittal, stating that the case, filed by his wife, was four years old. In 2018, Hasin Jahan accused Shami of issuing a bounced cheque worth Rs 1 lakh for household expenses. Despite multiple complaints filed by Jahan against Shami and his family, the court acquitted Shami of all charges.
Shami, currently playing for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, expressed confidence in the verdict, asserting his innocence. He emphasized his commitment to handling situations both on and off the field with integrity. The legal battle between Shami and Hasin Jahan regarding maintenance and alimony is ongoing, with Shami currently paying Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter’s care.
