A month-long Vikramotsav festival dedicated to Samrat Vikramaditya is set to begin in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, starting on February 15 and concluding on March 19. The event, organized by the Madhya Pradesh government, will feature a range of activities including religious, cultural, and trade events.
The festival will kick off with the inauguration of Shivratri fairs, Kalash Yatra, and a musical performance titled ‘Shivoham’ by renowned artists. Noteworthy events during the festival include the Vikram Theatre Festival featuring national and international theatrical artists from February 16 to 25.
Scheduled activities also include an international history conclave, puppet festival, and research symposium from February 26 to 28. An intellectual conclave focusing on justice during Samrat Vikramaditya’s era will take place between February 28 and March 1, followed by an all-India poets’ conference on March 7.
The mega event will encompass various programs such as an international festival of mythological films, Veda Antakshari, and Sunrise worship at Ramghat, Dutt Akhara, on Gudi Padwa. The festival will culminate on March 19 with celebrations marking Varsh Pratipada and Srishti Aarambh Diwas as Ujjayini Gaurav Diwas.
The main event, to be held on the banks of the Shipra River, will include the presentation of the Samrat Vikramaditya Award, the release of Vikram Panchang 2082-83, and the second edition of Arsha Bharat, along with the dance-drama Mahadev Ki Nadi Katha.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of showcasing all aspects of Samrat Vikramaditya’s personality during the festival. He highlighted the significance of introducing the younger generation to Vikramaditya’s contributions for the preservation of Indian knowledge systems and cultural heritage. Additionally, Yadav directed the involvement of science and engineering institutions in events focusing on the scientific aspects of Samrat Vikramaditya.
