Gujarat’s Morbi district has become the world’s second-largest ceramic manufacturing hub, following China. The town exports tiles to markets in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the US, bolstering India’s position in the global ceramics trade.

Morbi, often termed as India’s ceramic capital, has experienced significant industrial growth in the last decade. The cluster’s products now reach numerous countries, showcasing its expanding international presence and competitiveness.

The sector’s growth is attributed to continuous entrepreneurial investments backed by targeted state incentives. Ceramic manufacturers in Morbi are entitled to various subsidies, including interest and capital subsidies, to facilitate expansion and technological upgrades.

S. B. Parejia, General Manager of the Morbi District Industry Centre, highlighted the support provided to manufacturers, such as subsidies for participating in industry showcases and assistance for quality certification and power connections. The state government’s industrial initiatives, including Aatmanirbhar-oriented schemes, have played a crucial role in driving the sector’s development.

Morbi’s ceramic industry is a significant employer, creating jobs for over 5 lakh individuals directly and indirectly. Access to uninterrupted gas and electricity is emphasized by manufacturers as vital for sustaining large-scale production. Infrastructure support has been instrumental in the industry’s expansion, as noted by industry representatives and officials.

Industrialist Arvind Vasdaria mentioned that the ceramic industry aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for national development. Morbi accounted for a substantial portion of India’s ceramic exports in 2024–25, with shipments valued at approximately Rs 15,000 crore, according to state government data.

The district houses around 1,200 manufacturing units and has received substantial financial assistance under state industrial incentive schemes. Ceramic manufacturing in Morbi is a key focus area under the Aatmanirbhar Gujarat Schemes 2022, offering incentives like interest subsidies and SGST reimbursement for qualifying units.

The state has developed dedicated infrastructure, including the GIDC Integrated Ceramic Park, to bolster the ceramic value chain and promote advanced segments. With increasing exports, policy backing, and infrastructure enhancements, Morbi’s ceramic cluster continues to enhance its global presence, positioning Gujarat as a significant contributor to India’s manufacturing landscape.
