In a significant development under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, notorious gangster Amritpal Singh, known as Amrit Dalam, has been apprehended at the Moldova border, announced Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Amrit Dalam, a fugitive, was captured based on an Interpol Red Notice issued at Punjab Police’s request in collaboration with various agencies including the Ministry of External Affairs, CBI, and Interpol.
Following Chief Minister Mann’s instructions, Punjab Police has set up the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) led by Inspector General of Police Ashish Choudhary to expedite the extradition process of criminals abroad. Amrit Dalam, hailing from Dalam Nangal village in Batala, was associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and had escaped using a fake passport. He had been involved in extortion activities, especially targeting individuals and businesses in the Amritsar region.
Amritpal Singh, alias Amrit Dalam, is wanted in several severe criminal cases such as drug trafficking, murders, and attempted murders in Punjab, having absconded overseas for a significant duration. DGP Yadav highlighted that the detention of Amrit Dalam was a result of persistent international coordination and efforts by Punjab Police, with legal and diplomatic processes initiated for his extradition or deportation to India to face justice. The Punjab Police’s OFTEC is actively pursuing other criminals hiding abroad.
