Bhopal, Aug 14 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday urged the people to remember the painful legacy of Partition and celebrate the upcoming Independence Day with a renewed commitment to national unity, brotherhood and patriotism.

Addressing a programme at Shaurya Smarak in Bhopal to mark the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Chief Minister Yadav said the suffering caused by Partition should remind people of the importance of protecting the country’s unity and integrity.

“Partition Horrors Remembrance Day reminds us of the painful tragedy of 1947. We should pray that the country never again witnesses an event in which India is forced to part with a portion of itself,” he added.

Chief Minister Yadav also highlighted the growing participation in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign being observed from August 9 to 17 ahead of the 80th Independence Day.

“At the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has become a nationwide celebration of patriotism and public participation. The Tricolour is flying proudly in every district and town,” he said.

He added that Tiranga Yatras were being organised across Madhya Pradesh, with people participating enthusiastically and displaying the national flag as a symbol of national pride.

Chief Minister Yadav said India had made rapid progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was moving towards the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the world has witnessed the stature and influence of a capable India over the past twelve-and-a-half years. India is advancing with the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’,” he added.

Referring to the 1947 Partition, Chief Minister Yadav said that millions of people, including women, children and the elderly, had suffered and countless families had been forced to leave their homes.

He called upon people to draw lessons from the tragedy and work towards strengthening unity, brotherhood and national integrity.

Earlier, Mohan Yadav paid floral tributes to Bharat Mata at the Shaurya Smarak and inaugurated the ‘Pravasi Senani Veethi’, a gallery dedicated to the freedom struggle, sacrifices and contribution of the Indian diaspora.
