MP Khagen Murmu dismissed accusations linking the BJP to the recent assault on Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. He stated that the party was not connected to the incident, attributing it to mounting public discontent towards the former ruling party’s leaders in West Bengal.
Murmu refuted the claims, emphasizing that the BJP does not engage in or endorse such actions. He alleged that the Trinamool Congress has a history of political violence and coercion in the state, unlike the BJP.
The BJP MP accused several Trinamool leaders of facing public wrath due to corruption and violence during the party’s governance. He highlighted instances of corruption, violence, and misconduct, asserting that accountability cannot be evaded by Trinamool Congress leaders.
Murmu reiterated the BJP’s stance of non-involvement in the incident, stating that strict measures would be taken against any party member found engaging in misconduct or hooliganism. The political discourse escalated with additional comments from other BJP leaders, intensifying the exchange.
Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh dismissed the incident as a staged act, attributing it to public anger. He cautioned Abhishek Banerjee about his safety, citing dissatisfaction with the ruling party in West Bengal as a driving factor behind such incidents.
Bihar minister Ram Kripal Yadav echoed similar sentiments, attributing the public’s discontent with the ruling party in West Bengal to the incidents involving Trinamool leaders. He highlighted the anger stemming from alleged misdeeds, atrocities, and corruption by TMC leaders.
Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool National General Secretary and MP, reportedly faced an attack during a visit to Sonarpur in West Bengal on May 30. Protesters allegedly threw stones, eggs, and shoes at his convoy, leading to a confrontation where his shirt was torn and spectacles damaged.
