Mumbai City FC emerged victorious with a 2-0 win against Punjab FC in the final round of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The match saw goals from Hmingthanmawia (Valpuia) and substitute Vikram Partap Singh, along with two red cards for Punjab FC, shaping a tense and crucial encounter. Despite the defeat, Punjab goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh was recognized as the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance.

The result secured Mumbai City FC’s third-place finish with 25 points, while Punjab FC concluded the season in fifth place with 22 points. The game unfolded with both teams displaying urgency and intensity, with Punjab FC initially dominating possession. However, Mumbai City’s defense remained resolute, thwarting Punjab’s attacking attempts. Notable interceptions and challenges from players on both sides kept the match finely balanced.

The encounter evolved into a midfield battle, with neither team able to convert possession into clear scoring opportunities. Despite promising moments, including a close chance for Punjab towards the end of the first half, the teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0. The second half witnessed increased tempo, with Mumbai City gradually asserting control and creating more chances through strategic play.

A pivotal moment came in the 68th minute when Punjab’s Leon Augustine received a red card, reducing his team to 10 men. Mumbai City capitalized on the numerical advantage, applying relentless pressure on Punjab’s defense. The breakthrough arrived in the 80th minute when Valpuia scored, breaking the deadlock. Subsequent red cards for Punjab further weakened their position, allowing Mumbai City to secure a 2-0 victory in injury time, with Vikram Partap Singh sealing the win.
