The Mumbai Congress recently unveiled a ‘chargesheet’ accusing the Mahayuti government of corruption and administrative shortcomings during its tenure overseeing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The ruling alliance, in power for three years without civic elections, was criticized for mismanaging resources and neglecting accountability. Specific allegations included financial mismanagement, poor road conditions with persistent potholes, increased air pollution, mishandling of solid waste, privatization of municipal schools, and questionable infrastructure projects.
Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad condemned the Mahayuti for what she described as exploiting the city through administrative actions, resulting in a lack of essential services and favoritism towards contractors and industrialists. Gaikwad emphasized the need for the upcoming BMC elections to focus on civic issues rather than divisive factors like caste or religion. She highlighted key areas such as water supply, healthcare, education, and public transportation as priorities for development.
Gaikwad also mentioned ongoing discussions with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and similar parties for potential alliances in the upcoming elections. The Congress is reportedly considering aligning with the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, distancing itself from previous alliances.
