The upcoming 21st edition of the Mumbai Marathon will feature a significant change with a new route that includes the recently opened Mumbai Coastal Road alongside the iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Participants will now have the opportunity to run along the Coastal Road, offering breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea and the city skyline, enhancing the marathon experience.
The marathon will consist of various race categories starting and finishing at different points across Mumbai. The Elite Marathon will showcase top athletes running on the Coastal Road route, while the Amateur Marathon will challenge participants’ endurance from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to MG Road near Bombay Gymkhana.
In addition to the main races, there will be categories like the Half Marathon, Police Cup, Open 10K Run, Senior Citizens Run, Dream Run, and the Champions With Disability (CWD) Run, each starting and ending at specific locations, offering diverse running experiences for participants.
Anil Kumbhare, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Mumbai, emphasized the significance of incorporating the Coastal Road into the marathon route, aiming to showcase the city globally while ensuring a safe and smooth experience for both runners and commuters. Race Director Hugh Jones highlighted the marathon’s evolution over the years, combining the new Coastal Road with the traditional route to provide a unique running experience that reflects Mumbai’s progress and charm.
The revised marathon route celebrates Mumbai’s rich history, vibrant present, and promising future, featuring iconic landmarks and modern infrastructure like the Mumbai Coastal Road. It promises participants an unforgettable journey through the city’s diverse landscape, encapsulating the essence of Mumbai and fostering unity under the theme #HarDilMumbai.
