Mumbai recently witnessed a mix of tradition and modern sports fervor as Olympic bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat concluded a one-day youth and akhada tour across the city. The focus now turns to the upcoming Pro Wrestling League, commencing on January 16, with the debut of Tiigers of Mumbai Dangal (TOMD).
Sehrawat, who clinched bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics, interacted with college students and grassroots wrestlers throughout Mumbai, sharing his journey from traditional akhada training to global competition stages. His day began with early training in Mumbai, followed by a session with college students in Bandra, where he motivated young athletes and sports enthusiasts.
During interactions, Sehrawat highlighted the importance of discipline, patience, and persistent effort in achieving elite success, emphasizing the unseen dedication required. He expressed admiration for Mumbai’s passionate spirit, stating, “Mumbai has a different kind of fire. When you engage with students or enter an akhada here, you sense the hunger. I come from that same background.”
A key moment of the tour was Sehrawat’s visit to the Matunga Akhada, where he observed training sessions, interacted with young wrestlers, and immersed himself in the grassroots culture of Indian wrestling. The presence of an Olympic medalist at the training ground for future wrestlers embodies the essence of the sport and the values TOMD aims to instill.
This season, TOMD makes its Pro Wrestling League debut as a new franchise with a clear vision, having secured Sehrawat for Rs 51 lakhs at the 2026 auction, making him one of the league’s highest-paid Indian wrestlers and a pivotal figure in their inaugural season. Aksha Kamboj, the owner of TOMD, emphasized the importance of starting with the right message, focusing on grassroots strength, discipline, and faith in the process.
Accompanied by media content shoots at iconic Mumbai locations, the tour crafted a visual narrative of focus, resilience, and inner strength, introducing TOMD as a team that respects wrestling’s heritage while confidently entering the professional league arena. RP Singh, Co-Owner of TOMD, highlighted the franchise’s goal of honoring India’s wrestling legacy while building a competitive, contemporary team, with Sehrawat embodying this balance perfectly.
