The Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell in Kandivali Unit has apprehended two additional suspects in connection with a significant commercial MD drug case, bringing the total arrests to six. The operation also led to the confiscation of 210 kg of liquid 2-Bromo-4-Methylpropiophenone, a regulated precursor chemical utilized in MD production.
The arrests were made under specific sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, linked to the Agripada Police Station. The two accused, aged 32 and 27 and residents of Pydhuni in Mumbai, were taken into custody early on July 11 following an intelligence-based operation by the ANC. Acting on credible information, the police intercepted the suspects in the Wadi Bunder area, where the chemical was expected to be supplied.
This latest seizure is part of an ongoing investigation that initially recovered 14 kg of MD and liquid MD worth over Rs 50.74 crore. Authorities suspect the existence of an organized MD drug syndicate in Mumbai, with potential connections to other states. The police are delving into the supply chain, financial transactions, and the network involved in the procurement and distribution of precursor chemicals and narcotics.
