In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, expressed backing for the Women’s Reservation Bill. While endorsing increased female representation in legislatures, he advised Muslim women against entering politics from an Islamic standpoint. Razvi commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his proactive stance on amending the bill to enhance women’s roles in governance, especially in the upcoming 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

He emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and the significance of their participation in politics. However, Razvi acknowledged concerns within the Muslim community, particularly among youth and women, questioning the compatibility of political engagement with Islamic values. He cautioned that the current political landscape might jeopardize women’s dignity and safety, citing potential challenges such as lack of modesty and exposure, which Islam discourages for Muslim women in politics.

Razvi pointed out the stark differences between past and present politics, highlighting the complexities and risks associated with contemporary political environments. Despite his endorsement of the Women’s Reservation Bill, he advised Muslim women to exercise prudence and avoid direct involvement in political activities to safeguard their well-being.
