Muslim leaders criticized the Uttarakhand government, accusing it of hindering religious education for Muslim children. The government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the elimination of financial grants to all 456 Arabia madrasas starting from the 2027-28 financial year. President of All India Muslim Jamaat Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi expressed concerns that the government is impeding the new generation of Muslims from receiving religious education.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Mohammed Saleem Engineer condemned the government for fostering animosity towards Muslims. He emphasized that madrasas play a vital role in education and contribute to making education accessible. Saleem Engineer highlighted that madrasas not only teach religious studies but also subjects like Hindi, English, and others, emphasizing the government’s responsibility in education.
Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq criticized the BJP-led government for favoring specific communities at the expense of others. Barq emphasized that all religions are entitled to equal constitutional rights, and interfering with these rights is unjust. President of All India Imam Association Maulana Sajid Rashidi called on the Union government to close madrasas dependent on government grants, distinguishing them from those operating independently.
