Senior members of the Muslim community expressed appreciation for the Allahabad High Court’s ruling that practicing religion does not permit converting private spaces into unregulated congregational areas. The court rejected a plea seeking authorization for regular namaz at a private property in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district. Maulana Chaudhary Ibrahim Hussain, a Muslim religious leader, endorsed the court’s stance, emphasizing the importance of designated spaces for prayers to avoid conflicts.
Hussain highlighted the significance of the decision in maintaining communal harmony in a diverse country like India. He stressed the need to respect public spaces for common use to prevent potential disputes. All India Muslim Jamaat National President Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi echoed similar sentiments, citing Islamic principles that discourage offering namaz in disputed locations.
Barelvi pointed out the unsuitability of public places for religious practices due to noise and congestion, advocating for peaceful and secure environments like mosques or homes for prayers. He cautioned against obstructing public areas, especially routes used by ambulances. Former Babri Masjid litigant Iqbal Ansari supported the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of adhering to rules and offering namaz in mosques rather than public spaces.
