Muzaffarpur police have successfully solved a significant jewelry theft case that took place during a wedding reception at the Muzaffarpur Club. Three suspects linked to the theft have been apprehended, and authorities have recovered stolen cash and valuables amounting to several lakhs of rupees.
City SP Mohibullah Ansari revealed that the theft occurred on the night of June 22 at the Muzaffarpur Club during a reception event. The accused individuals allegedly stole a bag containing cash and valuable jewelry from the venue. Following the victim’s report, the Town Police Station initiated an investigation by registering a case (Case No. 354/26).
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the Senior Superintendent of Police’s guidance due to the incident’s sensitivity and high-profile nature. The team utilized CCTV footage analysis, technical surveillance, and human intelligence to identify the suspects. Rajesh Kumar Sah was detained for questioning, leading to his confession of involvement in the theft. Subsequently, Amit Kumar and Gopal Sah were arrested based on Sah’s revelations.
Rajesh Kumar Sah and Amit Kumar hail from the Belsand police station area in Sitamarhi district, while Gopal Sah is from Runnisaidpur in the same district. The trio’s modus operandi involved attending wedding functions as guests, identifying unattended bags with cash and jewelry, and absconding after theft. Authorities recovered various valuables from the suspects, including Rs 1.60 lakh in cash, gold, diamond, and silver ornaments.
The stolen jewelry, valued at around Rs 40 lakh, has been partially recovered by the police. Records indicate prior criminal cases against some of the accused, with Rajesh Kumar Sah facing a murder case at the Parsauni police station and another case at the Dumra police station in Sitamarhi district. The accused also admitted to another theft during a wedding in Ayodhyapur on June 21, leading to a separate case being filed.
Authorities are now focused on identifying the individuals and channels involved in the alleged sale of the stolen jewelry. Investigations are ongoing to determine the potential roles of receivers and traders connected to the disposal of the stolen items.
