Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed optimism about a recent agreement signed among the Centre, Assam, and Nagaland to facilitate mineral oil exploration in the disputed Assam-Nagaland border area. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to promote cooperation among stakeholders and unlock economic opportunities while enhancing the country’s energy security.
Efforts are underway to resume petroleum and natural gas exploration and production activities in Nagaland, as highlighted by the Chief Minister during a NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi. The tripartite MoU, signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is expected to pave the way for significant oil, natural gas, and mineral mining opportunities, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a prosperous Northeast.
At the NITI Aayog meeting, Chief Minister Rio emphasized Nagaland’s development priorities and sought continued support from the Government of India and NITI Aayog. He acknowledged NITI Aayog’s role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals and various development programs in the state, despite facing fiscal and infrastructural challenges as a resource-constrained and revenue-deficit region.
