Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the potential of Nagpur airport as a key growth engine for Vidarbha and central India. Various sectors like maintenance command, auto-aviation, and defence aviation manufacturing are set to benefit from significant investments in Nagpur and its surrounding areas. The Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagpur Airport is poised to become a catalyst for economic development in the region.

At a recent event where the airport was handed over to GMR Company, key dignitaries including Union Ministers were present. Fadnavis emphasized the importance of enhancing the airport’s infrastructure, with plans for modernization and expansion already in motion. The government’s efforts to ensure the airport’s growth were acknowledged, with expectations of a transformative impact on passenger and cargo traffic by 2029.

The development of two terminals and runways is crucial for accommodating the increasing traffic at the airport. Fadnavis assured support for projects like the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The industrial progress in Nagpur and its vicinity is anticipated to not only benefit neighboring states but also boost regional economic growth significantly.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari hailed the handover of the airport to GMR Company as a historic milestone, foreseeing a surge in exports through the cargo hub. With Nagpur’s strategic location and connectivity to major metro cities, the airport’s expansion is expected to meet the growing demands of air travel and cargo services. Additionally, the airport’s role in promoting regional tourism and mineral-based industries was underscored by the ministers.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu envisioned the Nagpur airport’s transformation into a major industrial hub for Vidarbha. Plans include increasing the annual passenger capacity and launching direct flight services to global destinations. The airport’s evolution from a transit point to a pivotal center for industrial growth signifies a new chapter in the region’s economic development.
