Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus is optimistic about his team’s fielding capabilities as they gear up for their 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup Group A debut against the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Erasmus drew inspiration from earlier matches where underdog nations like USA and Nepal challenged higher-ranked teams closely, emphasizing the importance of fielding in crucial game moments.
“I take confidence from the fact that we’re quite a good fielding side. Hopefully if we get into a position against any of the so-called higher ranked teams or anyone in our group, and we can play those moments really well, I think we should be confident of also coming on the right side of the results,” Erasmus expressed during a pre-match press conference.
Erasmus dismissed the distinction between Test nations and associate countries, highlighting that qualification for the T20 World Cup was based on merit regardless of status. He emphasized the competitiveness of all teams in the tournament and stressed the need for exposure to high-pressure situations for lower-ranked teams to secure victories.
Namibia has enlisted former South Africa opener Gary Kirsten as a consultant coach, leveraging his experience and knowledge of different grounds to enhance the team’s performance. Erasmus mentioned that the team had familiarized themselves with the conditions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and remained focused on their upcoming match against the Netherlands.
