Veteran politician and former Bihar minister Nand Kishore Yadav is set to become the 23rd Governor of Nagaland in a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Friday morning. Governor-designate Yadav arrived in Kohima on Thursday and was welcomed by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with other officials. The appointment and transfer of Governors and Lieutenant Governors in various states and Union Territories were announced by President Droupadi Murmu on March 5, with Yadav appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
Chief Minister Rio expressed his congratulations to Yadav on social media, stating his anticipation of collaborating for the state’s welfare and progress. Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton also extended his congratulations to the new Governor, emphasizing Yadav’s experience and dedication to guiding the state towards peace, development, and prosperity. Nand Kishore Yadav, a senior BJP leader, will succeed Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who has been serving as the Governor of Nagaland in addition to Manipur since August 25 last year.
Seventy-three-year-old Nand Kishore Yadav has a long political career, starting from his involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1969. He has held significant positions in the BJP, including serving as the Bihar BJP unit president and as the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly. Known for his seven-term tenure as an MLA from the Patna Sahib constituency, Yadav’s appointment as the Governor of Nagaland is seen as a recognition of his extensive political experience and public service contributions.
