Nara Lokesh was sworn in as the National Working President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Wednesday. The oath was administered by TDP National President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, at the party headquarters in Mangalagiri. This marks the first time in TDP’s history that a National Working President has been appointed.
Chandrababu Naidu oversaw the oath-taking ceremony for the Politburo, National, and State committees. Lokesh, who previously managed human resources development, information technology, and electronics, is viewed as the successor to Chandrababu Naidu. His elevation to the role of National Working President signifies his position as the political heir apparent.
Nara Lokesh’s promotion comes after the TDP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a significant victory in the state nearly two years ago. His role in the party’s electoral success is considered instrumental in his appointment. The newly formed committees of the TDP blend experienced leaders with fresh faces, including members from the Mandal and Cluster levels for the first time.
The party’s emphasis on active party workers is evident in the committee appointments, reflecting the slogan “The cadre is the leader.” The leadership’s goal is to rejuvenate the party’s image after 44 years by balancing seasoned guidance with youthful energy. Notable figures like Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary retain key roles in the committees under Lokesh’s leadership.
