The Nashik Police have submitted a 1,500-page chargesheet against the accused in the sexual harassment case linked to the Nashik BPO unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). This includes nine FIRs, with the chargesheet currently filed in one case. The investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has revealed evidence of forced religious conversion, leading to religious sentiments being offended.
The police have confiscated original documents used by the accused to change the victim’s name and identity. Additionally, digital evidence such as WhatsApp chat screenshots from both the victim and accused’s phones has been obtained. The accused individuals named in the chargesheet are Danish Ejaz Shaikh, Tausif Bilal Attar, Nida Ejaz Khan, and Matin Majid Patel, all of whom remain without bail.
The primary chargesheet, spanning 1,500 pages, was presented before the Additional Sessions and Special Court in Nashik under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. This marks the first chargesheet following investigations into rape allegations and religious sentiments offenses, initially reported at the Deolali Police Station in Nashik, with eight additional FIRs from TCS employees at the Mumbai Naka Police Station.
The victim and supporters, who had been advocating for prompt action, have found some relief with this development. The case, which exposed alleged systematic harassment at the workplace, has garnered significant attention, sparking outrage in Maharashtra. Authorities assure a thorough investigation for justice, with the detailed chargesheet viewed as a critical step towards the upcoming trial.
The incident has prompted discussions on workplace safety, particularly for women in major corporate environments in tier-two cities like Nashik. Employees are urging stricter internal policies and enhanced grievance redressal mechanisms within the IT sector.
