Artificial Intelligence (AI) needs to be a fundamental part of India’s education system and extend beyond just IT applications for the country to excel globally in this field, as per NASSCOM President Rajesh Nambiar. Nambiar highlighted NASSCOM’s collaboration with the University Grants Commission and other educational bodies to infuse AI into academic syllabi. He stressed the importance of preparing students for an AI-driven future by incorporating the latest AI advancements into the curriculum.
Nambiar disclosed his recent discussions with Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on various IT and AI-related matters. Recognizing Kerala’s talent pool, he emphasized the complementary roles of both state and central governments in advancing India’s AI aspirations. Nambiar commended Kerala for establishing a dedicated AI cabinet portfolio and emphasized the need for cohesive efforts among governments, academia, and industry to foster a robust AI ecosystem.
AI is reshaping global economies and societies, offering both challenges and unprecedented prospects, according to Nambiar. He highlighted AI’s strategic significance in influencing geopolitical power and global competitiveness. Nambiar advocated for AI’s widespread adoption beyond the IT sector, emphasizing its potential across various sectors like governance, healthcare, education, and manufacturing to unleash its full capabilities.

They underscored the importance of mandatory internships for students to strengthen industry-academia ties, crucial for developing a workforce ready for the evolving AI era.
