IT industry association Nasscom has advised member companies to boost vigilance and readiness in response to the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East. While current operations are stable, firms are actively enhancing contingency plans and resilience measures to address potential disruptions if tensions escalate. Many companies are already implementing or revising business continuity plans for operations connected to affected regions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Organizations are focusing on ensuring employee safety by facilitating work-from-home arrangements for staff in impacted areas and closely monitoring the situation. Additionally, they are exploring alternative infrastructure options to secure cloud platforms and data centers in the region and protect critical systems. Nasscom has recommended limiting non-essential travel through the region, a major international transit hub, and considering alternative travel routes when necessary.
Companies are maintaining close communication with clients, updating them on preparedness measures to ensure service continuity. The advisory also highlights the increased risk of cyber threats, disinformation campaigns, and infrastructure targeting during periods of geopolitical uncertainty, prompting companies to enhance their cybersecurity defenses. Key cybersecurity steps include organization-wide credential resets, accelerated patching of critical vulnerabilities, and enforcing multi-factor authentication for external access points like VPNs and cloud administration platforms.
Nasscom has advised companies to conduct supply chain security audits, especially for vendors with exposure to the Middle East, as a compromised third-party supplier could lead to broader sector disruptions. Other recommended measures involve preparing for potential DDoS attacks, maintaining offline backups for critical systems, and conducting employee awareness programs to combat social engineering and disinformation campaigns related to the ongoing tensions. The association continues to monitor regional developments and collaborate with the Middle East Council to provide necessary support.
