Batting all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt expressed her joy at making history by scoring the first century in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She achieved this feat with an unbeaten 57-ball century, guiding Mumbai Indians to a strong total of 199/4 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. In a mid-innings chat with broadcasters, Nat shared her satisfaction, aiming to contribute significantly to the team’s score.
After a span of 1059 days and 82 matches, the WPL witnessed its inaugural centurion in Sciver-Brunt, who also marked her first T20 hundred. Stepping in early, she handled the pressure before accelerating her pace with exceptional strokeplay and precise timing, dismantling the RCB attack with a remarkable 57-ball century comprising 16 fours and a six. Nat mentioned that her wife, former England pacer Katherine Sciver-Brunt, had wished for her to achieve a century, a wish that came true in Vadodara.
Nat Sciver-Brunt also formed a crucial 131-run partnership with Hayley Matthews, who contributed 56 runs. Reflecting on their performance, Nat expressed delight in batting alongside Matthews, especially after a lengthy injury break. Despite facing challenges with tosses in evening games, Nat emphasized the importance of their strong batting lineup and the upcoming task for their bowlers against formidable opponents.
