The National Jute Board, under the Ministry of Textiles, has created jute-viscose blended apparel for Indian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. The official kit unveiling ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Union Ministers and sports personalities.
This marks the debut of jute-based apparel at an international multi-sport event, aiming to showcase India’s jute industry and the skills of its manufacturers and farmers. The jute-viscose fabric was developed with the assistance of Gloster Jute Mills, Kolkata, promoting ‘Make in India’ products.
The initiative emphasizes the eco-friendly nature of 100% biodegradable jute-viscose fabric as a sustainable textile solution. Designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, the apparel aims to promote sustainable textiles and highlight India’s expertise in natural fibers.
