The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has raised the retail price of anti-rabies immunoglobulin and set prices for 39 drug formulations, covering treatments for various conditions like hypertension, diabetes, HIV, heart disease, and eye infections. The new price for anti-rabies immunoglobulin is Rs 119.48 per milliliter, up by 6.49% from the previous price of Rs 112.19 per milliliter. This adjustment is part of the NPPA’s regular pricing review under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order.
In addition to the anti-rabies immunoglobulin price revision, the NPPA has fixed prices for essential medicines to ensure their affordability. For instance, a combination tablet for hypertension containing amlodipine, bisoprolol, and telmisartan is priced at Rs 14.74 per tablet. Another formulation for heart health, comprising clopidogrel, aspirin, and atorvastatin capsules, is priced at Rs 6.37 per capsule. In ophthalmology, the retail price of nepafenac and moxifloxacin ophthalmic solution has been set at Rs 68.64 per milliliter.
The NPPA’s pricing exercise is aimed at regulating drug prices to make essential medications accessible to patients. Manufacturers or marketing companies found charging prices higher than the set rates will need to refund the excess amount with interest as per the Drugs (Prices Control) Order. Additionally, the NPPA has granted a five-year price control exemption to Pneubevax 14, India’s first 14-valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine developed by Biological E, based in Hyderabad.
