Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the National Rural Development Conference 2026 with the goal of realizing the vision of “Viksit Gram, Viksit Bharat” by uniting states and the Centre to plan inclusive rural development. The conference, spanning two days, will convene Rural Development Ministers, government officials, policymakers, and experts to discuss the future trajectory of rural India and assess the progress of key programs.
Chouhan emphasized that the conference is a significant stride towards materializing the vision of “Viksit Gram, Viksit Bharat” by fostering a joint strategy for rural metamorphosis through collaboration between the Centre and states. The discussions will prioritize enhancing local-level planning, optimizing resource utilization, and expediting comprehensive and sustainable rural growth.
Participants at the conference will evaluate the advancement and execution of major rural development initiatives, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, rural skill development programs, and the National Social Assistance Programme. The agenda will also encompass effective enforcement of the VB-GRAMG Act, 2025, and reinforcing planning mechanisms at the Gram Panchayat level to facilitate knowledge exchange, tackle grassroots challenges, and devise pragmatic policy measures.
The event will witness the attendance of Rural Development Ministers from all states and Union Territories, as well as officials and experts engaged in rural development schemes. Various thematic sessions focusing on rural housing, infrastructure, livelihoods, skills training, and social welfare will be conducted, showcasing successful models and innovative approaches from different regions to inspire replication nationwide. Notably, discussions will spotlight the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, emphasizing women’s economic empowerment through Self-Help Groups, rural entrepreneurship promotion, and youth skill enhancement.
