The National Statistics Office (NSO) has issued uniform guidelines for compiling District Domestic Product (DDP) estimates with the base year 2022-23. These guidelines aim to ensure consistency, comparability, and methodological standardization in district-level economic estimates. The document outlines concepts, coverage, data sources, estimation procedures, and methodologies for calculating Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP), Net District Domestic Product (NDDP), and Per Capita Income at the district level.
The emphasis of the guideline is on using a bottom-up approach for compiling DDP estimates, leveraging district-level data where available. In cases where district-wise information is lacking, top-down approaches and suitable allocation indicators are recommended to derive estimates consistently. Currently, 26 States/Union Territories are involved in compiling DDP estimates, with efforts underway to bring all regions on board for uniform and comparable estimation practices.
The finalized guideline is expected to harmonize estimation practices across regions and enhance the institutional framework for preparing district-level economic statistics. Reliable and comparable DDP estimates are anticipated to support decentralized planning, evidence-based policy formulation, regional development analysis, and informed decision-making at the district level. Furthermore, the guideline will aid States/Union Territories in enhancing data systems and strengthening statistical capacity for robust district-level estimates.
The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) had published the Draft Guideline for Compilation of District Domestic Product (DDP) Estimates with Base Year 2022-23 on its official website on April 7, 2026, for consultation and feedback from stakeholders. The finalized “Guideline for Compilation of District Domestic Product (DDP) Estimates” has now been released and uploaded on the MoSPI website after a thorough review of comments and suggestions from various stakeholders.
