The 72nd National Volleyball Championship is underway at the Sigra Stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, with over 58 teams and 1,000 players from different states participating. Teams have gathered at the Dr Sampurnanand Multipurpose Sports Stadium, also known as Sigra Stadium, as part of the Smart City project. The competition promises a display of high sportsmanship and talent in Indian volleyball.
Players arriving in Varanasi were warmly greeted, expressing gratitude towards the organizers and locals. Balwinder Singh Jamwal, the head coach of Jammu and Kashmir women’s team, praised the government and sports association for promoting sports in the region, enabling their participation. Teams from across the country are geared up for the tough competition.
Sadaf Manzoor highlighted the challenging nature of the competition, emphasizing the strong teams from various states. The players, including Aayat from Kashmir valley, appreciated the facilities and support provided by the government for sports development. The event, inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is scheduled from January 4 to January 11.
