In a National Workshop on R&D in Water, Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil proposed a three-pronged approach involving research, technological innovation, and Jan Bhagidari to enhance the innovation ecosystem. The workshop brought together 500 stakeholders from various sectors to discuss water research and innovation for achieving water security and climate resilience. Minister of State for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh and Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary were among the attendees.
Paatil highlighted the significance of water in civilization and development, emphasizing the need for research, technological innovation, and community participation to address water challenges. Over 315 R&D projects in the water sector, with 113 directly supported by the Ministry, were noted as efforts to promote research and innovation. The success of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari campaign, which reported over 1.5 crore water conservation structures nationwide, was also underscored.
The launch of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari: Catch the Rain Portal was announced as a nationwide initiative to enhance community-led water conservation. Geospatial technologies and partnerships were emphasized for supporting scientific water management and source sustainability. Jitendra Singh stressed the importance of a collaborative approach involving academia, industry, and startups to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, highlighting the role of science and technology in water management.
