Natyaveda, a renowned dance and music academy in Kerala, is commemorating International Women’s Day with a unique cultural event. The academy will showcase a special arangettam performance featuring 13 senior women from various backgrounds. These women, aged between 40 and 50, will debut on a single stage at the state government cultural auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram at 5 p.m.
Guru Kalamandalam Sony Teacher, the driving force behind Natyaveda, highlighted that the performers include professionals and homemakers who have received training in classical dance. She expressed that for many of these women, performing on stage has been a long-cherished dream. This event serves as a tribute to their dedication and the essence of International Women’s Day.
Established in 2000 in Thiruvananthapuram, Natyaveda has evolved into a vibrant cultural institution over the past two decades. Initially a small collective, it now serves as a respected platform connecting performers, scholars, and enthusiasts of classical arts. The academy, registered under the Charitable Societies Act and affiliated with the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, conducts various cultural activities to promote Indian art and culture.
Natyaveda’s journey includes the establishment of the Natyaveda College of Performing Arts, affiliated with Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya in Chhattisgarh. This college offers degree programs in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic vocal and Hindustani vocal music, as well as diploma courses in various art forms. Notably, it is the only IKSVV-affiliated performing arts college in South India, with students achieving national recognition and participating in prestigious events.
