Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik honored the late legendary leader and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on his death anniversary. Patnaik praised Biju Patnaik’s significant contributions to the nation and Odisha, addressing party workers and highlighting his legacy as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and self-respect.
Patnaik emphasized Biju Patnaik’s pioneering role in women’s empowerment, dating back to the 1990s. He expressed support for the Women’s Reservation Bill coinciding with Biju Babu’s death anniversary, underlining the BJD’s commitment to empowering women.
Expressing concerns over the proposed delimitation exercise, Patnaik raised apprehensions about its impact on Odia identity and political interests. He urged the Chief Minister to convene a special session of the State Assembly promptly to safeguard Odisha’s political interests, criticizing the state government for allegedly prioritizing BJP’s interests over Odisha’s.
Calling for unity among Members of Parliament from Odisha, Patnaik warned of historical consequences if they fail to stand together. He described Biju Patnaik as a figure of immense stature, comparing his personality to the vastness of the sky, the tolerance of the earth, and the towering presence of the Himalayas.
Patnaik also criticized certain individuals in Odisha politics for claiming Biju’s legacy while engaging in what he termed as betrayals. He highlighted Odisha’s historical neglect by successive Union governments, emphasizing the need for a united effort to protect the state’s interests and identity.
