Three drug traffickers have been apprehended by the NCB in Siddipet, Telangana, with the seizure of 39.470 kg of Alprazolam and Rs 85.36 lakh in cash. The investigation revealed that the Alprazolam was being illicitly produced at an illegal lab in Prashant Nagar, Hyderabad, by an arrested supplier holding an MSc in Chemistry.
In a separate incident, the NCB detained a prominent Myanmar-based drug trafficker known as Thancintuang alias Chintuang alias Tluanga. He was reportedly a key supplier of methamphetamine tablets and heroin smuggled from Myanmar into India through the Northeast region. The arrest of Chintuang followed extensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, interstate coordination, and sustained follow-up operations by the central anti-narcotics agency.
According to the NCB, Chintuang was a significant trafficker along the Myanmar-Mizoram-Manipur-Assam-Tripura corridor, serving as a major international distributor of methamphetamine and heroin. Investigations unveiled his involvement in organizing cross-border trafficking networks for routing narcotic consignments through Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, and Tripura to various parts of India and Bangladesh.
Chintuang was wanted in multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by the NCB and other Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs), including cases registered by the NCB and Champhai Police in Mizoram. The NCB highlighted that his arrest marked the second major apprehension of a Myanmar-based drug supplier in 2026. In 2025, the NCB recorded 48 NDPS cases in the Northeast region, resulting in the arrest of 116 drug traffickers and the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 665 crore in the illicit market. In 2026, the agency has already registered 31 NDPS cases and apprehended 54 traffickers in enforcement operations across the region.
