The Narcotics Control Bureau made significant arrests in Gondia, Maharashtra, seizing 702 kg of Ganja hidden among grocery cargo items. The contraband, found in 100 packets disguised with products like detergent and toothpaste, was linked to an interstate trafficking network. This operation targeted drug syndicates in Nagpur, Gondia, Pune, and Mumbai.
In a separate case, the NCB achieved convictions in a Mumbai court involving five drug traffickers, including a key figure, in a synthetic drug trafficking scheme. The convicted individuals received prison sentences ranging from 15 years to one year. The Special NDPS Court in Thane handed Mohammed Arif Yaqoob Bhujwala, the kingpin, a 15-year prison term and a Rs 2 lakh fine.
Other individuals involved in the case, such as Parvez Khan alias “Chinku Pathan,” Mohammed Salman Khan, and Vikrant Jain, received five-year prison sentences and fines. Haris Faizullah Khan was sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs 10,000. The investigation also led to the freezing of properties worth over Rs 1.5 crore linked to Parvez Khan.
Further financial scrutiny revealed assets worth more than Rs 5 crore tied to kingpin Mohd. Arif Bhujwala, including cash proceeds from drug sales and various properties. The case originated from a search operation on January 20, 2021, in Navi Mumbai, where NCB officers apprehended Parvez Naserullah Khan, a known drug trafficker, and seized 52.2 grams of Mephedrone (MD) from him.
