A high-level delegation from the NCP met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to address various issues following the tragic death of Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. The delegation, comprising key party members like Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare, discussed matters such as appointing a new legislative party leader and deputy chief minister. This meeting comes amidst a leadership vacuum within the NCP and the Mahayuti government.
After the meeting, Praful Patel informed the media that discussions were held with the chief minister regarding the election of new leaders for the legislative party. Patel emphasized the need for prompt decisions on cabinet portfolios and leadership appointments. He mentioned that the party’s stance would be finalized after consulting all party MLAs.
Stressing the importance of considering the sentiments of party members, Patel clarified that no formal decision had been made regarding appointing Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, as the deputy chief minister. He highlighted that the party’s focus is on making a well-thought-out decision that aligns with the expectations of legislators and the public.
Patel also mentioned that any decision regarding the Deputy CM post would be made in accordance with the party’s legislators’ sentiments. He assured that the vacancy would be filled promptly, and a suitable choice would be made soon. Earlier, NCP Minister Narhari Zirwal had advocated for Sunetra Pawar to be appointed as the next Deputy Chief Minister to uphold the political legacy of the Pawar family.
