Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) State President, Sunil Tatkare, has refuted rumors suggesting that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde lobbied Union Home Minister Amit Shah to prevent the NCP from securing the finance portfolio. The political circles in Maharashtra have been abuzz following a recent meeting between Dy CM Shinde and HM Shah in Delhi. Speculation arose that Shinde’s visit aimed to block the NCP’s claim to the finance ministry, especially after NCP leader Jayant Patil met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the portfolio.
Tatkare defended Shinde when questioned about these speculations, highlighting Shinde’s leadership qualities and his respect for alliance partners. He emphasized that Shinde, a seasoned leader who has previously served as Chief Minister, would not interfere to hinder an ally from obtaining a specific portfolio. Tatkare stressed the amicable relations between Shinde and the NCP, noting the history of successful collaboration in Shinde’s political decisions.
Despite dispelling rumors of internal discord, Tatkare reiterated the NCP’s firm stance on securing the finance portfolio. He disclosed that an NCP delegation, led by Sunetra Pawar, is set to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis soon to formally present their demand and address other pending alliance issues. Tatkare’s statement holds significance for the NCP leadership, as regaining control of the finance department is crucial for political survival and constituency development.
Amid concerns among NCP MLAs about the delayed return of the Finance and Planning portfolio, speculations suggest that the BJP might be hesitant to restore the portfolio due to the state’s financial constraints. NCP insiders, however, indicate strong opposition within the party to any compromise, viewing the finance portfolio as a symbol of their authority in the coalition.
