The Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) will hold a distinct Martyrs’ Day program in Kolkata on July 21 to honor the 13 individuals who lost their lives during a protest in 1993. NCPI leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar emphasized the collective responsibility of paying homage to the martyrs, stating that it is essential to honor all those who sacrificed for freedom and law and order.
Previously, the Trinamool Congress conducted its annual ‘Martyrs’ Day’ rally in a single large event in Kolkata. However, due to internal divisions within the party, separate events are now being organized by different factions at alternative venues approved by the Calcutta High Court. This has led to four different Martyrs’ Day programs scheduled in Kolkata on July 21.
In response to these developments, Lok Sabha MPs who joined NCPI after leaving the Trinamool Congress will also host their own event on the same day. Additionally, the Indian National Congress plans to conduct a separate event related to the issue, further adding to the multiple commemorations scheduled for July 21 in Kolkata.
