The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has issued a notice to Visva-Bharati University (VBU) authorities regarding allegations of irregularities in appointing an ST candidate as an Associate Professor in the Bengali Department. The VBU Vice-Chancellor was asked for a report on this matter in February, but as there was no response, the NCST has sent another notice to the university.
Dr. Probir Kumar Ghosh, the Vice-Chancellor, has been requested to provide a detailed report along with all relevant information and actions taken within seven days. The commission has warned that if the response is not received within the specified time, the university authorities could be summoned as per constitutional powers.
Associate Professor Tushar Patua from Kalyani University lodged a complaint in January, alleging irregularities in the recruitment process for the Associate Professor (ST) position in the Bengali Department. The commission initiated an investigation based on this complaint. Patua has expressed concerns over the university’s lack of response, questioning the transparency of the recruitment process.
Following controversies over the selection criteria and exclusion of eligible candidates, attention is now on Visva-Bharati’s response and the subsequent actions by the NCST. Despite the completion of the interview process in May, issues persist over the appointment of the Associate Professor (ST). Visva-Bharati authorities have not provided an official response on this matter.
