The National Commission for Women (NCW) has called comedians Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra to appear before the panel on June 22. This summons is in response to alleged objectionable comments about women and the Rs 370 biryani controversy. The commission expressed concern over the content of a viral video from a stand-up comedy show in Gurugram. It highlighted the normalization of behavior that undermines women’s consent, dignity, and autonomy.
The NCW Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, has urged the Haryana Director General of Police to take immediate and strict action. The commission has requested a detailed action taken report within seven days. It seeks information on the registration of an FIR, actions against those involved, and the role of organizers and performers in the incident. Additionally, measures to prevent the normalization of sexual harassment in public entertainment platforms are being discussed.
The commission strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing the importance of consent. It stated that any attempt to trivialize sexual coercion or disrespect towards women’s autonomy is unacceptable. Such behavior goes against the principles of equality, dignity, and safety guaranteed to women by the Constitution and laws of India. The NCW aims to ensure that public spaces do not promote or normalize conduct that violates women’s dignity.
