The National Commission for Women (NCW) has initiated action following the suicide of a woman in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, allegedly due to prolonged domestic violence by her husband and in-laws. The NCW has instructed the state Director General of Police to file an FIR, arrest the accused promptly, conduct a time-bound investigation, gather evidence, and submit an Action Taken Report within seven days.
Expressing concern over the incident, the NCW highlighted the issue of women’s safety and dignity within marriages. The woman, identified as Eshwari Bhujang-Bankar, reportedly faced physical and mental harassment before her tragic death. The immediate cause of the suicide was a violent assault, triggered by a dispute over a strand of hair found in food, leading to the registration of a case at the Chhawani police station.
Eshwari, who had married Ajay Bankar in June 2020, was residing in Bhavsingpura. Despite receiving dowry and facing abuse, she allegedly continued to be pressured for more money by her husband. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with authorities awaiting further details as the probe progresses.
