The National Commission for Women (NCW) has initiated action after reports emerged about the distressing ordeal of two sisters in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district. The sisters, who faced prolonged gang rape, blackmail, and exploitation, tragically ended their lives within two months. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has urged Rajasthan authorities to promptly investigate the matter and submit a detailed report within seven days.
Expressing concern over the alleged police inaction despite pleas for help, the NCW has demanded information on the legal actions taken, arrests made, and the status of the investigation. The Commission has also sought details on the support provided to the victims’ family and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Strongly condemning the incident, NCW emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and any negligence in addressing such cases.
According to the complaint, the elder sister succumbed to suicide in March after enduring years of abuse and extortion. The younger sister, in her police complaint, accused several individuals of gang rape and exploitation. Despite filing an FIR, the family claimed inadequate progress in the case, leading to public outrage. The tragic incident has sparked widespread protests, highlighting the urgent need for swift and effective action against such atrocities.
